Glen Powell has boarded the upcoming sequel to 1996’s disaster movie Twister from Universal Pictures, in which he will star opposite Fresh star Daisy Edgar-Jones.
Minari director Lee Isaac Chung is helming the wittily-titled sequel, Twisters, from a script by The Revenant writer Mark L. Smith. The film, co-financed by Warner Bros., is due to touch down in cinemas on July 19th, 2024.
Twister centred on Bill and Jo Harding (Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt), advanced storm chasers on the brink of divorce who must team up to test an advanced weather alert system by putting themselves in the cross-hairs of extremely violent tornadoes sweeping across Oklahoma. The original film was helmed by Speed director Jan De Bont and executive produced by Steven Spielberg, from a screenplay by Michael Crichton.
In this next chapter, Edgar-Jones will star as a former storm chaser who, after surviving a disastrous tornado encounter, now works a desk job. However, she will soon be forced to go out into the breach once more (of course). No word yet on who Glen Powell might be playing.
Powell recently starred in Top Gun: Maverick and opposite Jonathan Majors in Devotion. He’ll next star in the action-comedy Hitman from Richard Linklater, which Powell co-produced and co-wrote.
