With X-Men: Apocalypse set for next year, it’s been revealed that 20th Century Fox is already planning for another X-movie.

Deadline is reporting that Fox will be developing an off-shoot from their main X-Men movie franchise. To be called The New Mutants, the film will be directed by The Fault in Our Stars’ Josh Boone and penned by Boone and Knate Gwaltney. Lauren Schuler Donner and Simon Kinberg will be producing.

Kinberg told the outlet, “We’re so excited to explore this new part of the X-Men universe. And so excited to do it with Josh, who is uniquely suited to tell this story about young characters.”

The actual New Mutants comic book was a creation of the legendary Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod, first appearing back in 1982 and focussing on a group of teenage mutants in training. It was a title that was used to profile some mutants who were usually low down on the totem pole, such as Blink, Warpath, Sunspet, Magik, Dani Moonstar, Wolfsbane and Cannonball. Although the book centred on these characters, there would also be appearances from Professor X and other mutants throughout its run.

As ever, expect more on this as it develops.
