Yellowjackets breakout star Sophie Thatcher has landed the lead role in Companion, a sci-fi thriller from the team behind last year’s horror success Barbarian. She joins a cast that also includes Jack Quaid, Lukas Gage, Megan Suri and Harvey Guillen.

Drew Hancock makes his directorial debut with the feature, which is based on his original script. The plot is being kept secret. Barbarian writer-director Zach Cregger is producing the film alongside BoulderLight Pictures’ Raphael Margules and J.D. Lifshitz, and Vertigo’s Roy Lee. BoulderLight’s Tracy Rosenblum and Vertigo’s Andrew Childs will executive produce. Cregger was initially set to direct Companion, before opting to go ahead with his own script instead, a New Line film titled Weapons.

Sophie Thatcher is best known for playing teenage Natalie in Showtime’s survival drama Yellowjackets, the younger version of the character portrayed by Juliette Lewis. The show recently finished airing its second season. The actress is also currently on screens in 20th Century Studios’ Stephen King adaptation, The Boogeyman, in the lead role of Sadie Harper. Thatcher stars opposite Chris Messina and David Dastmalchian in the horror flick.

THR was the first to announce her casting. The team behind Companion reportedly hope to go into production this summer, though various industry strikes may delay those plans.
