Lionsgate is searching for another pot of gold in a new Leprechaun film reimagining. The longest-running franchise in the studio’s history and cult horror series will receive a fresh take with Felipe Vargas (filmmaker of award-winning short film Milk Teeth) in the director’s chair, working from a script by the upcoming Lilo & Stitch scribe Mike Van Waes; Roy Lee will produce through his Vertigo Entertainment banner alongside Miri Yoon.

The first Leprechaun film released in 1993 and starred Warwick Davis as the vengeful titular character. Davis would go on to play the leprechaun in six further films, though he did not reprise the role in 2014’s Leprechaun: Origins nor 2018’s Leprechaun Returns.

“Thirty years after its debut, this franchise still casts a spell, and we’re thrilled to be bringing it back with a new vision,” Erin Westerman, president of production for Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group, states. “Roy and Miri are two of our most trusted producers, especially with this genre, and we’re excited by Felipe’s vision for the film as a director. In his hands, this movie should be very scary and a ton of fun.”

As it’s still in the development stages, no official title has been revealed, nor do we yet know who might star as the vindictive gold digger. So, stay tuned for updates!
