With Warner Brothers
looking at ways to expand their cinematic roster of DC-based characters, now
comes word that Booster Gold and Blue Beetle could be getting their own joint
big screen outing.

The
Tracking Board
is the source of this news, with the outlet reporting that
Warners and DC Entertainment are moving forward with what has been pitched as a
“superhero buddy cop movie” that will have a slightly comedic slant. Greg
Berlanti, best known to genre fans for producing and developing the likes of Arrow, The Flash and CBS’ upcoming Supergirl, is believed to
be in line to direct the Booster and Beetle team-up.

Additionally, Heroic
Hollywood
has the scoop that Zak Penn is in talks to pen the screenplay for
this film. Penn’s previous credits include the likes of X-Men: The Last Stand, The
Incredible Hulk
and some draft work on Joss Whedon’s Avengers Assemble.

As for the characters in question, Booster Gold has been a
big time fan favourite since he was created by Dan Jurgens back in 1986.
Initially living in the 25th century, Michael Jon Carter travels back in time
to the present day where he uses his knowledge of future technology to become a
cocky, sponsor-adorned, insta-smiling hero.

Where Blue Beetle is concerned, Dan Garrett, Ted Kord and
Jaime Reyes have all taken on the moniker. The various versions of the
character have all had slight differences, such as Garrett’s use of a mystical
scarab or Kord’s high level of intelligence. And as it happens, both Kord and
Reyes have teamed up with Booster Gold over the years. Also, both Booster Gold and Blue Beetle have already been seen in live-action,
having both previously appeared in
Smallville.

As ever, expect more on this as it develops, although some
speculation claims that the two heroes could even make a small appearance as
soon as Zack Snyder’s Justice League:
Part One
in 2017.
