Board games company Asmodee has acquired the English-language rights to Mayfair Games’ Catan series. Catan is a best-selling series of board games, with the ‘Settlers of Catan’ game being the most well-known. Catan will be published by the newly formed Catan Studio, and further development of the hit brand is promised.

This adds to a growing collection of games publishers under the Asmodee name, which includes Fantasy Flight Games, who produce various games including award-winning Star Wars and Game of Thrones products. Asmodee also control Days of Wonder, who produce the likes of Ticket to Ride and Small World.

The award-winning Catan board game, invented in 1995 by Klaus Teuber, has sold more than 23 million copies (including expansions) and is translated into 35 languages.
