Billed as an “action-packed thriller” from the pens of Zak Penn (The Avengers, X-Men: The Last Stand) and Michael Karnow (CatDog) Alphas is the latest show from Syfy (yep, still not as good as Sci-Fi).

According to Syfy (shakes head despondently) Alphas is the story of “five ordinary people that are brought together to form one extraordinary team of Alphas – people with the unique power to stretch the capabilities of the human mind giving them superhuman physical and mental abilities”- Sort of Mission Impossible meets the X-men then? Wowsers. Here’s the trailer:

Featuring the talents of a personal favourite of mine David Strathairn (The Bourne Ultimatum, Good Night, and Good Luck) and an ensemble cast with plenty of TV experience between them, I’m pretty confident that Syfy (why?) could have a hit on their hands. Now if only they’d change that name…

ALPHAS premieres on Syfy (doh!) Stateside on July 11.

Did you like the trailer? Excited by the prospect of a new Crime Fighting team or bored to death with disparate groups of stragglers forced to overcome their differences to succeed? Actually prefer Syfy to Sci-Fi? Let us know below…
