It’s been one of the worst kept secrets in Hollywood, but Disney has now finally confirmed that Alden Ehrenreich has landed the role of the young Han Solo for their upcoming Solo-centric “Star Wars Story” movie. Of course, this is something we first reported on back in April.

The House of Mouse and Lucasfilm officially announced the casting at this past weekend’s Star Wars Celebration event, with the Blue Jasmine and Hail, Caesar! actor to headline Chris Miller and Phil Lord’s upcoming movie.

This new film will explore the story of a young Han Solo, showing how he became the loveable scoundrel that we first met in Mos Eisley back in 1977. Also confirmed for the film is Chewbacca, with The Force Awakens’ Joonas Suotamo to return as Han’s furry BFF.

The still-untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story effort is currently set for a May 25th, 2018 release, marking it as arriving between Episode VIII and Episode IX. This will be the second Star Wars Story movie, with Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One – A Star Wars Story hitting cinemas this December.
