Wolverine has been a Marvel staple since his introduction in The Incredible Hulk in 1974. The clawed healer, AKA Logan, AKA James Howlett, has cast a very long shadow, one that often blots out many of his crime fighting companions. Whether you love him or not, Wolverine is one of Marvel’s strongest characters and his time, it seems, is finally up.

There isn’t much that gets past comic fans, especially with revelations as colossal as killing off Wolverine, and it’s now been confirmed that the yellow spandex-sporting grump will indeed die.

Death of Wolverine is a four-issue run, written by Charles Soule and illustrated by Steve McNiven, and set for a September release. It’s a controversial decision and one that may very well come back to bite them in the arse, but as long as Logan dies with dignity and integrity than it could very well become one of Marvel’s finest moments.

Having said that, death in superhero comics means so little, we’ll likely be seeing the character fighting fit within a year!
