Netflix has tapped Kirill Sokolov, best known for his recent horror-actioner They Will Kill You, to direct the original sci-fi thriller Blur.
Netflix is keeping the synopsis secret for now, so all that is known is that it’s a mother-daughter story involving teleportation. Shawn Levy and Dan Levine will produce via 21 Laps, with Bryan Oh overseeing.
The project is based on a previous script by Christy Hall and Dan Casey, but Sokolov will co-write the new draft with Ellen Shanman.
Sokolov is a Russian filmmaker who broke out in 2019 with his dark crime action-comedy, Why Don’t You Just Die. They Will Kill You, which starred Zazie Beetz, marked his English-language debut and was set in a luxury Manhattan building whose Satan-worshipping tenants engage in ritualistic killings. Per STARBURST’s Joel Harley, “Barely pushing ninety minutes, [They Will Kill You] barrels from brisk setup to bonkers ending, never losing momentum or pausing for thought.”
No word yet on any casting decisions or potential release window, but stay tuned for further updates.
