Lee Cronin’s new horror movie is hitting cinemas in April and is backed by some of the biggest names in Hollywood. The film has been produced by James Wan, John Keville, and Jason Blum. It’s being distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures and has a huge cast.

Egypt Sets the Scene for Horror Once Again

Egypt has provided a foundation for horror movies for quite some time. Some examples include Manhattan Baby and The Awakening, both of which were filmed in Egypt. Since the Tut phenomenon, which relates to the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1922, Egypt has had a huge influence on every vertical of media.

Literary works such as The Lady of the Reed and The Egyptian continue to draw readers to this day. The History of Egypt podcast also delves into 5,000 years of Egyptian history. iGaming has also embraced the theme. Eye of Horus is a slot based on the Egyptian god with hieroglyphics, tombs, and ankhs featured. It’s not uncommon to see this game linked to new casino promotion announcements, either, as the theme is so recognisable for people new to iGaming or those who have an interest in history.

Egypt is also emerging as a cinema hub as well, producing 75% of the screen output for Arab countries. The longstanding connection that Egypt has to our modern-day world is undeniable, and when you consider the above, it’s evident to see why this was chosen as a theme for Lee Cronin’s new movie.

Lee Cronin is No Stranger to Horror

Lee Cronin is no stranger to horror and is best known for his work on Evil Dead Rise and The Hole in the Ground. Famous for his slow-burning tension and ability to cause psychological unease, he’s convinced that fans will love what he’s created with his latest movie.

The trio of producers for the project includes James Wan, who did The Conjuring and Jason Blum, who worked on Halloween, and Cronin. The producers have worked together to create a movie that’s not based on shock value alone. The movie runs for 2 hours and 13 minutes and is a full cinematic experience. The story centres on the daughter of a journalist who disappears into the desert without a trace at all.

For 8 years, her family has been left in limbo, but when she reappears, the family comes to the realisation that it’s not the person they once knew but something that’s not entirely human.

The movie is said to contain gore and is rated R. With Blumhouse Productions, Atomic Monster, and New Line Cinema all backing the movie, this could well be a big-budget horror that doesn’t disappoint. Some of the people who we know to be starring in the movie include Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, Natalie Grace, and May Calamawy. Jack Reynor has had strong performances in movies in the past like Midsommar and Macbeth, so it’s going to be interesting to see him star in such a role.
