D&D ICONS OF THE REALMS: ADULT BLACK DRAGON

PUBLISHER: WIZKIDS | RELEASE DATE: EARLY JANUARY 2021

The Black Dragon is one of the more memorable monsters from the game of Dungeons and Dragons. More cunning than the Blue and more wicked than the Red,  it’s one of the games iconic horrors. Not only does it have a distinctive look, with wicked looking curved horns and a narrow, skull-like face, according to the Monster Manual it is a cruel beast.   Capable of melting most adventurers with its acid breath, the Black Dragon likes play with its food a while and hear them scream.

Ran properly, a Black Dragon fight is one of the more memorable types of encounters. It’s cruel, likes to stalk its prey and can turn its entire lair into one massive trap. They’re meant to be used as highly intelligent and cunning villains and many D&D players have a cool story to tell about the time their party met one of these monsters.

Obviously then, you’ll want a memorable model for the encounter. Wizkids have out-done themselves here, the D&D Icons Of The Realms: Adult Black Dragon model is a gorgeous, highly detailed pre-painted piece for one of the more exciting elements of the game.  It’s posed as if it has just landed; one claw outstretched with its huge wings pointing to the sky.  The detail on the model is great, the thing looks truly evil. This thing is scary, in a really cool way. It’s a very large piece and yes, your party will be very worried when it lands on the table.

Especially noteworthy are the work on it’s wings and belly. It has graying, tatter looking wings (all the better to hide in swamps) and its belly is detailed and heavily armoured. It would be a brave character who took this beastie on. Tabletop gamers looking for a big bad boss or collectors looking for something cool for the display cabinet should check this out.
