Don’t you just love it when a beloved TV show gets put through the ‘redo’ machine and we end up with a slightly hollow shell of what was once great? Yeah, neither do we. Here’s hoping that this isn’t another case of that…

As the title suggests, there’s a new version of Misfits in development over in the US for the Freeform network. Gossip Girl’s Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz, who also worked together on The O.C., are to oversee the series.

The original UK series ran from 2009 until 2014 and focussed on a group of young offenders carrying out community service. They all end up with superpowers after being struck by lightning, and we get to see the group coming to terms with their abilities and exploring just what they’re capable of. Creator Howard Overman was give the 2010 BAFTA Television Award for Best Drama Series for the show.

As ever, expect more on this as it develops.
