The increasing popularity of Charlie Brooker’s incendiary satire BLACK MIRROR with our cousins across the pond proves the indomitable power of Netflix. What started out as an introspective, if horrific, series subverting and satirising our cultural obsessions with technology, media and the self has now been given the seal of approval by Stephen King, among many others. Given that it’s left such an impression on American audiences, it was inevitable they’d want a go at things themselves.

Endemol Shine North America, being the US branch of the company that produced the show in Britain, will be responsible for adapting the series for American audiences. New co-CEO Charlie Corwin has spoken to Variety, claiming that Brooker and producer Annabel Jones “have really touched on something and I agree – we need more.”

Little is known about the US version at this stage, but Brooker has said himself he’ll serve as showrunner on any overseas adaptations. Given Brooker’s own admiration of quality US TV and how ripe for satirising American culture is, the series is sure to be one we hope to see back in Blighty.
