Whilst last month saw plans revealed for the Divergent series to soon transition to the TV world, now comes an update on that matter.

It was believed that the final movie, titled Ascendant, would be a straight-to-TV effort that would be done as a precursor for a Divergent TV series. That final movie was set to tell the story of the second half of the final Divergent novel, but now it looks as if all could be a little different in how things play out for the franchise.

As per a new report from Deadline, Lionsgate’s Kevin Beggs has said that the current plan is to resolve “the novel in a season across 10 to 13 episodes and then expanding from there into multiple seasons.”

This latest news seems to indicate that no-longer will it be a TV movie spinning off into a new TV series, instead it sounds as if we’ll get a straight season of TV to wrap up the standard Divergent story from the books before further seasons delve deeper into a totally new story.

When the initial report of a TV movie came out, there were question marks over whether series mainstays such as Shailene Woodley, Miles Tiller, Ansel Elgort and Jeff Daniels would be a part of the film, and now you’d have to think that even more questions will be raised over the return of these names for an entire season of TV.

There’s no word just yet on whether the Divergent TV series will find a home on regular TV or if it may join the many shows that are now turning up on streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime, but, as ever, expect more on all of this as and when it develops.
