It was the proposed TV series which became a feature film… and then became a proposed TV series again. But now it seems that, after a poorly-received pilot released exclusively through LOVEFiLM and amazon.com, Zombieland has finally bitten the dust. The 2009 film version starred Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin (and Bill Murray in a wonderful cameo role) as mismatched survivors of a zombie apocalypse on a road trip to California in search of a rumoured ‘zombie free’ amusement park. The film – part action movie, part-comedy –  pulled in $102 million at the Box Office from a $23 million budget and rumours quickly circulated that a sequel might be on the cards. In the end the movie was reformatted and recast as a TV pilot with Tyler Ross, Kirk Ward, Maiara Walsh and Izabela Vidovic playing the lead characters of Colombus, Tallahassee, Wichita and Little Rock. But in the wake of an almost-universally poor reception, amazon have now decided not to proceed with the anticipated full Zombieland series. Series’ creator Rhett Reese, who wrote the movie and pilot episode scripts with Paul Wernick, reported on Twitter that “our Zombieland series will not be moving forward on amazon. Sad for everyone involved.” He went on to blame fans who took against the pilot. “I’ll never understand the vehement hate the pilot received from diehard Zombieland fans. You guys successfully hated it out of existence.”

Oh well, not to worry. There’s sure to be another zombie apocalypse coming along soon enough…
