Pixar may be hesitant to risk a fourth feature length entry in the timeless TOY STORY series (as they should, best to leave on a high), but Woody, Buzz and the gang have been enjoying new tales since the third film in the form of shorts. Three have been released so far – HAWAIIAN VACATION, SMALL FRY, PARTYSAURUS REX - and this Halloween they’ll have their longest new adventure yet, in a 30-minute TV special airing on the US network ABC.
The horror themed tale will see the gang going on a road trip with new owner Bonnie, only to find themselves searching for one of their clan when they go missing in a motel. Pixar have cited the likes of PSYCHO, PREDATOR and ALIENS as inspiration, proving that they’re still dedicated to telling these stories for both young and old alike.
All the voice cast are present and correct, just in case you feared that a TV budget would prohibit the participation of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack et al, and there’s even room for new addition Carl Weathers, who will be providing the voice of Combat Carl, a character not seen since the original TOY STORY.
There’s no plans to air this special in the UK at present, but Disney would be daft not to release this on DVD/Blu-ray around the same time, perhaps with the collected shorts accompanying it.
