The shock announcement that Glen Mazzara will no longer serve as The Walking Dead’s showrunner when it returns for a fourth season late 2013 left many a fan feeling like Dale did in Judge, Jury, Executioner – gutted. After stepping in to replace Frank Darabont mid-way through season two, Mazzara gained full control this year, and has so far delivered not just one of the best run of Walking Dead episodes, but some of the best damn TV we’ve seen in a long time. His departure still remains a mystery, with AMC choosing to just play the ol’ “creative differences” card.

So who’s up to bat next? Step forward Scott Gimple. Die hard Walking Dead fans will already be familiar with his name, as Gimple has written for the show since season one – Save the last One, Pretty Much Dead Already, 18 Miles Out, Hounded and The Sorrowful Life are all his. He also served as producer on the show, all of which encourages us greatly. The fact that he also wrote Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and several episodes of the hideous FlashForward… not so much.

The Walking Dead return to our screens mid Feb. While we wait it out, let’s all torture ourselves by watching a new trailer…
