After their brilliant, Guillermo Del Toro directed opening credits a few weeks ago, The Simpsons have delivered another cracking couch gag.

In their sights this time are Peter Jackson’s Hobbit movies. Recasting Homer as a dwarf, Marge as Gandalf, and the kids as hobbits, the gang set off from Hobbiton to find the legendary Simpsons couch.

It’s a timely parody, with Jackson’s extended version of An Unexpected Journey just released (digitally anyway, the Blu-ray hits in a couple of weeks) and The Desolation of Smaug just over a month away.

Without spoiling too much, highlights to look out for are a radically redesigned map of Middle-earth, a couple of perfectly cast Simpsons regulars as Gollum and Smaug, and a none too subtle reference to Jackson’s tendency to drag things out.

Oh, and the whole thing is a mere one and a half minutes long. That’s less time than it takes Martin Freeman’s version of Bilbo to read his contract.

Enjoy…
