Whether Marvel’s AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. has done enough in the last few months to renew itself for a second season remains to be seen. Some things that definitely are happening, though, are the Netflix-exclusive Marvel shows for Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, and eventually The Defenders. Appearing on Kevin Smith’s Fat Man on Batman podcast, Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada has been discussing what we can expect from these shows.

The former Editor-in-Chief of Marvel revealed, “They will exist within the cinematic universe again, so this is all the same world as S.H.I.E.L.D. and The Avengers. There will be some interconnectivity, much like the movies.”

Quesada elaborated, “Although these are superhero stories, this is different. This is the street level, noir side of the Marvel universe, probably more ground level that you’ve really seen in any of our Marvel movies. This is still Marvel doing street-level superheroes. This is not like us doing DARK KNIGHT or any of that stuff.”

He concluded, “The scripts are coming in and they’re pretty fantastic: very emotional, very original. But at the same time, it IS Daredevil; it IS Matt Murdock. These stories take place in Hell’s Kitchen, and the fantastic thing is that we’re shooting at home in New York where these characters belong. We will hopefully start casting really, really soon.”

Excited? We can safely say we have high hopes for these shows. That said, we had similarly high hopes for AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D., and that certainly took its time to find its feet.

This agreement between Netflix and Marvel sees 13-episode series for each of Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones. The four characters will then be brought together in a mini-series, THE DEFENDERS.
