We’ve not heard anything about Dreamworks’ proposed TV adaptation of Stephen King’s UNDER THE DOME since we reported the news back in May, but all that’s now changed with the announcement that comicbook legend Bryan K. Vaughan has been hired to write the show.

Vaughan is best known known for creating several seminal titles over the years, including Y: THE LAST MAN, RUNAWAYS, and EX MACHINA. He’s also got prime TV experience after serving on the writing staff of LOST during season 3, 4, and 5. It’s the latter that was possibly the most key factor in Vaughan landing the gig – Stephen King was a long-time fan of the show, and repeatedly dropped references to it in his stories (DOME itself featured a fictional LOST sequel entitled ‘The Hunted Ones’).

King himself will executive produce the show alongside Dreamworks head honcho Steven Spielberg, with US cable network Showtime airing.

Expect more news on this as it drops.
