After having appeared in Season 2 of The CW’s ARROW, Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen is getting his own spin-off show: THE FLASH. Currently in development, the show has added LAW & ORDER’s Jesse L. Martin to its ranks as Detective West. A long-time cohort of Allen’s in the comic book world, not to mention being the father of Barry’s ‘one true’ Iris, the character will be a series regular.

The Hollywood Reporter, who broke the news, describe THE FLASH’ Detective West character as “an honest, blue-collar cop who is a surprise father to Barry. A soulful, funny and caring father to Iris – Barry’s potential love interest – West came up through the foster care system and took Barry in after his mother’s slaying and father’s imprisonment. He believes in Barry and supports his efforts to prove his father’s innocence.”

Previously, Ernie Hudson (GHOSBUSTERS, THE CROW) was said to be the front-runner for the role of Detective West.

At present, THE FLASH series is being developed by ARROW co-creators Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg. Geoff Johns is penning the show’s pilot, with David Nutter, who also debuted the ARROW pilot, on board to direct.
