Following on from the recent announcement that the film franchise will be re-rebooted next year, comes confirmation that the TV show creator Sean S. Cunningham teased last September is indeed going forward. Deadline has the scoop, and reveal that the show will reimagine the indestructible slasher icon Jason Voorhees in “multiple time periods”. Whatever that means!

Here’s what Cunningham has to say about the new hourlong:

“Jason Voorhees is synonymous with the genre and we plan to build on this legacy with a provocative and compelling take that expands upon the storylines that have already thrilled millions worldwide.”

Sadly, producer Robert Barsamian is equally as vague:

“Expect the show to take viewers in some exciting new directions that we’re confident will not only excite existing fans of Friday The 13th but also attract new audiences to the situations and characters that inhabit the small town of Crystal Lake.”

With so little to go off it’s hard to know whether this is a good idea or bad, but recent shows such as Bates Motel and Hannibal have proven that it is possible to do fresh takes on franchises that have been diluted over the years. And let’s face it, whatever they do with it, it’s got to be better than the 2009 reboot.

Expect more updates on this series soon…

The new FRIDAY THE 13TH movie opens March 13th, 2015.
