While fandom gears up for the big, mysterious 50th Anniversary special this November, even less is known about this year’s DOCTOR WHO Christmas special, other than that it’s the episode in which Matt Smith will hand the TARDIS keys over to Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi.
The biggest hint yet at what will be the cause of the latest regeneration comes from stuntwoman Darrelle Parker, who has tweeted: “Great to be stunting again for Dr Who in the Christmas special playing a Cyberman!”
So the Fall of the Eleventh may come in a battle against one of the series’ most iconic villains. This wouldn’t be the first time the Cybermen have been the defeat of a Doctor – William Hartnell’s Doc gave up the ghost after first fighting them back in 1966, and the metallic race have constantly returned to menace many Doctors since. Though it isn’t long since they last showed up, in Neil Gaiman’s disappointing Nightmare in Silver this spring, that episode did set up a potential return for the redesigned Cybes. Of course, knowing Steven Moffat’s fast pace, they may not be the main villain of the piece and could well be showing up for nothing more than a cameo.
