Eagle-eyed Starburst readers might have spotted recent “popular” press coverage of Doctor Who’s latest excursion over the Severn Bridge and into England for extensive location filming in and around That London for an episode in the second half of season seven which is due to air “in the spring.” The episode, written by current show runner Steven Moffat and directed by Colm McCarthy, will actually be the first post-Christmas episode and will be a modern day Earth story whose guest cast will include Celia Imrie, the British stage and screen actress well-remembered from her work with Victoria Wood and whose huge body of work includes Gormenghast, Doctor Zhivago, Kingdom and Cranford as well as a role in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Ancient readers might even remember Celia from the cult BBC 1981 four-part thriller The Nightmare Man, written by 1970s Doctor Who writer/script editor Robert Holmes, adapted from David Wiltshire’s novel Children of Vodyanoi. Earlier this year Celia appeared alongside new Doctor Who companion actress Jenna-Louise Coleman in ITV1’s ill-fated Titanic mini-series.
Doctor Who returns to BBC1 for a special episode on Christmas Day and season seven resumes in 2013.
