The Doctor Who fan community has been buzzing with rumours for months but the BBC have today finally confirmed that a number of previously-lost episodes of Doctor Who from the 1960s have been recovered and will be shortly be made available for fans to enjoy. An official Press conference in London later this week will reveal how many of the missing episodes (until recently numbering 106) are to be released and in what format. Episodes starring William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton, the first two TV Doctors, were routinely junked by the BBC in the early 1970s but it is known that film copies were sent overseas for transmission and it is likely that the recovered instalments have been located in foreign TV Archives by determined enthusiasts working tirelessly to discover the truth about these long-lost recordings. But it’s great news for fans of Doctor Who as it approaches its fiftieth anniversary in November and Starburst will be on hand to provide all the latest news about the recoveries and how and when we’ll all be able to see them.
