James Gunn has announced that the next big-screen Superman movie will be Man of Tomorrow, and will be released July 9th, 2027.

After having previously teased a follow-up to this summer’s Superman, the filmmaker finally unveiled the sequel via a post on his Instagram account, alongside similar posts made by stars David Corenswet, who will return to play Clark Kent and his Kryptonian alter ego, and Nicholas Hoult, aka the supervillain Lex Luthor.

Each post included a different piece of artwork depicting Superman and Luthor, with the evil genius having swapped his businesswear for a natty new mech suit. This green and purple suit has been used by Luthor on many occasions in the comics and animated movies, but never seen in live action. It seems that Luthor has had enough of his lackeys failing to take down Superman and wants to do the job properly himself, so this rematch should be one to watch out for.

Before the Man of Tomorrow soars into cinemas, there are a couple more DC Universe films on the way – Supergirl, directed by Craig Gillespie and starring Milly Alcock, is due June 26th 2026, followed by James Watkins’ horror-styled Clayface, starring Tom Rhys Harries, on September 11th 2026.
