By now, we’re all aware that the Melissa Benoist-starring Supergirl series has moved from CBS to The CW ahead of its second season. We also know about certain new additions for the Maid of Might’s show, but now comes word on another new face for this series… because after all, what would a “Super” show be without the presence of a Luthor?

TV Line is reporting that Katie McGrath has landed the role of Lena Luthor in Supergirl, with the character set to become a recurring part of the series’ Season 2. McGrath is best known for genre efforts such as Dracula, Merlin and Jurassic World.

As for Lena Luthor, she is, of course, the sister of Superman’s longstanding nemesis, Lex Luthor. The description of Supergirl’s Lena reads:

Beautiful, powerful, and enigmatic, Lena arrives in National City on the heels of brother Lex’s incarceration hoping for a fresh start. Lena has taken over as CEO of her family’s billion-dollar-tech-company, Luthor Corp, which has been tarnished by Lex’s evil infamy. Her goal? To re-brand the empire as a force for good. Lena wants to be seen as her own person, separate from her brother. Kara is drawn into Lena’s sphere and must determine if she is friend or foe.

For longtime fans of anything Super, you’ll remember how Cassidy Freeman was eventually revealed as being Lena Luthor in Smallville, with her arc being one of the more engaging of the show’s final few seasons.

Whilst the arrival of Lena in Supergirl could see the character go either way, let’s just say it’s never safe to trust a Luthor.

Katie McGrath as Lena Luthor isn’t the only new addition for Supergirl, with Tyler Hoechlin already confirmed to turn up as the Big Blue Boy Scout himself, Supergirl, not to mention Floriana Lima as Maggie Sawyer, Ian Gomez as Snapper Carr, and former Wonder Woman Linda Carter as the President of the United States.

Supergirl returns to US screens on October 10th, with a UK return expected to follow shortly after.
