STARFINDER BATTLES: GALACTIC HEROES AND VILLAINS

Starfinder is the space fantasy franchise produced by games company Paizo. It’s essentially the ‘space opera’ version of their popular story driven fantasy world Pathfinder. The setting mixes fantasy tropes with classic sci-fi romance, to create something rather special. (And frankly, if Netflix are serious about wanting their own Star Wars style franchise, then they should be looking at this; Starfinder literally has space wizards in it.)

Starfinder is primarily a table-top roleplaying game, and that means that the lovely people at Wizkids have produced pre-painted models to make your gaming experience smoothing. We took a look at two sets; Starfinder Battles: Galactic Heroes and Starfinder Battles: Galactic Villains. Each set comes in a clear ‘blister pack’ so you can see what you are getting.

What both these sets do is ‘sell’ the Starfinder setting in a very visual way. In the Heroes pack we get six models. One is a Vesk; a big space lizard, wielding a purple ‘laser sword’. It is assisted by a rat-like Ysoki Technomancer; who is well equipped and adorable looking. The Lashunta Commando looks like a typical ‘bumpy headed alien’ from modern sci-fi shows. The android looks like an innocuous robotic adventure. We also get a four-armed Ksotha Technomancer, and the paint job makes it look like futuristic fantasy hero. Finally we get a Shirren Soldier, one of the hive-like creatures responsible for a lot of the plot in Starfinder Adventures.

The villains are similarly diverse. We get a patrol security droid that looks more spindly than deadly, which is likely to lull players into a false sense of security. Similarly the Aeon Guard model is shiny as it is dangerous. We also get space goblin in a goldfish bowl style helmet which is delightfully silly. Similarly the ‘contemplative’ monster is basically a huge brain on spider legs. Creepy and brilliantly rendered. We get one space pirate and a space necromancer also, and these are okay if a little bland. Mostly these models can be used a heroes if need be.

Overall both these sets are great accessory for your Starfinder games.
