With Sony’s animated Spider-Man movie currently in development, the film has moved to bring in two major cast additions.

As per The Tracking Board, Mahershala Ali and Brian Tyree Henry have joined the animated adventure. Ali, best known to genre fans for playing the villainous Cottonmouth in Marvel’s Luke Cage as well as nabbing an Oscar for Moonlight, will be providing the vocals for Aaron Davis, the uncle of Miles Morales who also happens to be the nefarious Prowler. Where Henry is concerned, he’ll be lending his vocals to Jefferson Davis, Miles’ father who has a shady past but who cleaned up his act once he started a family.

Seemingly just titled Spider-Man, the film will focus on the Miles Morales version of Spidey rather than the standard Peter Parker Wall-crawler. Morales took over the mantle of Spider-Man following the heartbreaking death of Peter in the Ultimate world. In more recent years, the character has actually been integrated in to the standard 616 comic book real due to his ever-increasing popularity.

Already on board as Spidey is The Get Down’s Shameik Moore, while Liev Schrieber is signed up to play a mystery villain.

To be directed by The Little Prince’s Bob Persichetti and Rise of the Guardians’ Peter Ramsey, Spider-Man is currently set for a December 21st, 2018 release.
