Fresh off last month’s rumours of Tom Cruise being in talks to headline Universal’s upcoming Mummy reboot, now comes word that Sofia Boutella is in talks for the redo.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news, with it reported that the Kingsman actress is actually in talks to play the titular Mummy itself. Of course, stories from earlier in the year claimed that Universal were open to having either a male or female version of the monster, with both sexes being auditioned for the gig.

This latest telling of one of cinema’s greatest terror tales is the first movie of a planned new shared monster universe, which could include the likes of Dracula, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Wolf Man, Van Helsing, etc.

To be directed by Alex Kurtzman, The Mummy is currently set for a March 24th, 2017 release.
