Sung Kang, likely best known from the Fast and the Furious franchise and other action-heavy blockbusters, is making his directorial debut with horror-comedy Shaky Shivers. Filmed in 2020, the feature is described as a ’90s-set monster mash that is an ode to the types of ’80s films Kang grew up loving.

Shaky Shivers follows two ice cream shop employees (played by Brooke Markham and VyVy Nguyen) who become stranded at an abandoned Girl Scouts camp, where a book of magical spells puts them in contact with a number of classic movie creatures. Aaron Strongoni penned the script with Andrew McAllister.

Also among the cast are joined Jimmy Bellinger, Erin Daniels (House of 1000 Corpses), Skyler Day, and Herschel Sparber.

“I didn’t want to do something really heavy,” Kang says. “I think a lot of people expected, because of my association to these big blockbuster action movies, that I would do some action film.”

Sung Kang is currently shopping Shaky Shivers at the American Film Market. He was most recently seen playing the Fifth Brother in Disney+’s Star Wars series, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and in Fast & Furious 9. The actor will next appear in Fast X.

There’s no word yet on when Shaky Shivers might release.
