With its fifth season only a matter of days away from premiering in the US, confirmation has already arrived to say that THE WALKING DEAD has been renewed for a sixth season.

In a press release, AMC President Charlie Collier said, “We could not be more excited for October 12th as we share new episodes of THE WALKING DEAD with fans around the globe. In advance of Sunday’s season five premiere, AMC proudly confirms a sixth season order of this extraordinary series. Thank you to Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple, the terrific executive producers, and the entire team who brings this compelling world and these rich characters to life. There’s plenty more DEAD ahead thanks to their impressive, collective effort.”

Additionally, it’s been confirmed that Scott Gimple will be returning as the showrunner and executive producer for this sixth season, whilst fellow executive producers Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, Greg Nicotero and Tom Luse will also be back. As for which characters will make it through to the sixth season, that’s something we’ll have to watch develop throughout over the next few months.

Whilst the upcoming fifth season of THE WALKING DEAD debuts on Sunday, October 12th on AMC in the US, the show’s UK return will follow on Fox at 9pm on the following night.
