With that little event known as Comic-Con taking place over the pond in San Diego, there’s a boatload of genre news floating around the wonderful World Wide Web and beyond, and Marvel seems to be involved in a whole lot of it.

Now whilst Robert Downey Jr. will indeed be soaring once more as Tony Stark in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, not to mention THE AVENGERS 3, the actor isn’t signed on for any further IRON MAN movies at this stage. Speaking to EW, RDJ addressed this little issue.

Asked about an IRON MAN 4, Downey Jr. said, “It’s down to Kevin Feige and Ike Perlmutter and Disney to come to us with what the proposal is, and that’s on us to agree or disagree.”

When pushed on whether he’d be happy to somebody else step into the Tony Stark role, he added, “Why give up the belt when it feels like you can barely get jabbed?”

Indeed.

So it seems that Downey Jr. is putting the ball firmly in Marvel and Disney’s court in regards to making him an offer that matches what he’s looking for. The thing is, Marvel Studios have gotten themselves into a major pickle with just how much their cinematic Tony Stark is Robert Downey Jr., making it a massive job for somebody else to come in and essentially play Robert Downey Jr. playing Tony Stark.

Either way, there’s at least those two AVENGERS outings for RDJ’s Stark for now, with AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON hitting UK screens on 24th April, 2015.
