With Channing Tatum long signed-on to headline 20th Century Fox’s Gambit movie, the film is now closer to finding a director.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Rupert Wyatt is being eyed for the gig, although he’s not signed on as of yet. In terms of previous work, Wyatt is best known for helming the excellent Rise of the Planet of the Apes and last year’s The Gambler.

As for Remy LeBeau, aka Gambit, it’s still unconfirmed as to whether he’ll be making an appearance in the next X-Men movie, Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse, before he gets his own movie. Chances are he’ll have some sort of role in Apocalypse, if you ask us.

RoboCop scribe Josh Zetumer has penned the screenplay for Gambit, which will be produced by Channing Tatum, Reid Carolin, Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner. At present, the film is set for an October 7th, 2016 release.
