The John Wick movies only really work because of the charisma, public-facing kindness and professionalism of Keanu Reeves. He carries that franchise on his back like a beloved surfboard, selling every ridiculous action move and by-the-book plot point with such absurd sincerity that you simply have to keep watching.

Woody Fu: One Man John Wick is a loving mockery of all things Keanu, but especially the John Wick movies. The typical way these shows go is that we get a re-telling of the movies littered with gags. Woody Fu goes a slightly different way; the performer embodies Keanu Reeves as John Wick and invites us, the audience, to help him make an (imaginary) John Wick movie, lending our power to Keanu in order to make yet another most excellent action flick.

The result is incredibly funny and very fun. This is both a gentle parody of Reeves (with Fu occasionally stopping to confirm that yes, Reeves regularly does this very generous or serious thing) and sharp poke at the Hollywood moviemaking process. Members of the audience are handed props so they too can help make the next John Wick happen.

For example, an audience member may be handed a wooden toy camera and get asked to be the camera operator. This means that when said volunteer ‘zooms in’ , Woody runs towards them to make the ‘zoom’ happen.  Each recruit allows for another recurring gag, which adds to the momentum of the show, making things sillier and sillier as we progress. It’s thick with jokes, making it easy to enjoy and laugh along with. It’s one of those shows that you keep remembering little bits of days later as your find yourself recalling a gag you almost missed.

Woody Fu: One Man John Wick is full-on funny. Charming and clever, silly and special, this is a fun show and one that any action movie fan who takes things a little bit too seriously should seek out.  Pop culture perfection.
