KILLING EVE

killing eve

Villanelle discovers Christianity and even has a wonderfully creepy Jesus-like alter-ego. Will she stay good? Of course not! We know it is only a matter of time before she is back to her murderous self, as her basic credo is ‘if you don’t like it kill it.’ Meanwhile, Carolyn Martens former head of MI6 is on a personal mission to track down the killer of her son, Kenny. Eve is intent on finding and eliminating The Twelve, whilst the ever jovial Konstantin Vasiliev is tasked with training a new assassin; in exotic Margate. Newcomer Anjana Vasan plays the part of Konstantin’s protege. Outwardly timid, she has an affinity with death. She is a highlight of the series that does show a few stylish glimpses of its former glory.

Yet, as this is the last season there is an inevitable drive towards concluding the various plot lines, and there is a lack of surprises. You want to scream ‘boring’ just like Villanelle in the trailers! Villanelle is a vile person who brutally attacks, tortures and murders people (mainly men), sometimes under orders at others on a whim, and she has no empathy for her victims. She trundles around in bright clothing to an eclectic soundtrack, and despite the show’s title, the last person she or anyone is likely to kill is Eve. Finally, like a murderous version of Max and Paddy, Eve and Villanelle have their moments together. We know they are inevitably doomed – in a stylish and dramatic fashion, of course!

It all started so well…

Season 4 is available on BBC iPlayer.
