PUBLISHER: WIZKIDS | RELEASE DATE: LATE MARCH
Dungeons and Dragons has many, many monsters, including the titular dragons. One of the more memorable is the lich; a necromantic magic user who has focused their mastery of the undead into their own bodies in order to cheat death. These hideous creatures are a mainstay of many popular fantasy stories and have played a huge part in the broader mythos; many adventures, books and other media feature an evil undead necromancer as the big bad villain at the end of the story.
So what happens when a spell-casting Dragon decides to defy the natural order and become a lich? You get a draco-lich of course, a hideous zombie dragon previously only found in nightmares, old Forgotten Realms books and the conclusion to A Game Of Thrones. The Blue Dracolich Premium Set features a blue dragon in lich form. The blue is a notoriously vain and narcissistic type of dragon that delights in unleashing lightning on its foes. Canonically, the lich process tends to turn Blue Dragons completely crazy, which makes them incredibly dangerous foes.
The model is posed very differently to the healthier looking Adult Blue Dragon piece also available via Wizkids. Whereas the living dragon has a powerful and imposing look, crackling with energy, the Blue Dracolich has a furious power all of its own. Its eye sockets are empty and the monster is full flight, its tattered wings fading from a bright blue to a corpse grey. Bones and sinews can be seen Electrical energy is erupting from its, represent by thick translucent plastic.
This is an impressive (though quite spiky) piece. It does have an integrated flying stand which is a little on the thick side, but overall this is unique looking addition to any collection of fantasy models. This hideous beastie is part of Wizkid’s new Boneyard range for D&D Icons Of The Realms. It’s a horror themed set of models, perfect for those of us looking forward to the new Ravenloft gothic horror expansion.
As part of the Boneyard release, we should mention that they are also to limited run promos; one is a set of Ork Skeletons that can only be found via your Friendly Local Games shop and the other are Kobold skeletons available via Pre-Orders on the Wizkid’s site.
Overall, the Blue Dracolich Premium Set delivers a worthy adversary for any brave adventurer.
