Dungeons & Dragons is a game that requires dragons; this is a pretty obvious thing that even the movie gets right. This is even more the case for Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen, a D&D adventure which is about a war involving dragons.
D&D Icons Of The Realms: Dragonlance Kansaldi On Red Dragon is a boxed set featuring a quite big red dragon model and a miniature for High Master Kansaldi Fire-Eyes, a fanatical devotee to the dragon queen and leader of the Red Dragon army in the realms of Kalaman. The character famously tore out their own eye to acquire magical visions and is one of the game’s major characters. In this set, she’s posed in two ways. The top half detaches and can be clipped onto some legs (so Kalaman can face the adventurers on land), or it can attach to a special saddle. Which then goes on the dragon.
Kansaldi’s red dragon is a gloriously furious beast. It wears a small amount of armour on its chest, and part of its neck can either be an armoured piece or Kansaldi’s saddle. In both cases, the red dragon has huge shoulder pauldrons that enhance the spiky, angry look of the model. This is a slim red dragon, posed with its face roaring out. The wings are a little frayed, as if it’s been in plenty of battles and has won every single one.
Given that Kansaldi is one of the big bad guys of this epic adventure and that this will be a setpiece for the game, Wizkids got it very right here. A great piece for gaming or for your shelf.
