In November 2016, we saw the first release of the Cthulhu Casebooks from New York Times bestselling author James Lovegrove named ‘Sherlock Holmes and the Shadwell Shadows’ and now over 12 months later we now have a second instalment ‘Sherlock Holmes and the Miskatonic Monstrosities’. The Shadwell Shadows gave the readers an insight through the eyes of Dr John Watson as it is fictionally written by Sherlock’s true companion.

This is a second book of a planned trilogy which yet again has been another impressive material to read based on the iconic detective that has captured millions over the years from books to the big screens and to our very own small screens at home.

The author is no stranger to the Sherlock Holmes saga before his creation of the Cthulhu Casebooks series. Lovegrove wrote three Sherlock Holmes Pastiches – The Stuff of Nightmares, Gods of War, The Thinking Engine and The Labyrinth of Death.

The book is based in the spring of 1895 – 15 years after the events of the Shadwell Shadows. Sherlock and Dr John Watson are called in to visit the infamous Bedlam lunatic asylum meeting an inmate who has forgotten his existence not knowing his identity, a life memory out of the window. Holmes and Watson find out their inmate was scientist after graduating from Miskatonic University and the only survivor from a voyage in the Miskatonic River. The detectives wonder how on earth this once scientist has ended up in London. It’s down to Holmes and his colleague to discover the real truth of the mystery New England voyage and learn who is up to no good behind the Miskatonic Monstrosities.

The third and final story of the Cthulhu Casebooks, Sherlock Holmes and the Sussex Sea-Devils, is expected to be released in November 2018. But if you can’t wait that long then keep an eye out for a new instalment of ‘The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes’ with ‘The Devil’s Dust’ which is out in June 2018, a note for your New Year diaries or in this case your Sherlock Holmes detective notepads.
