Comedian Alex Walker takes on the role of a lifetime by embodying the deadly and horrifying Billy the Doll in an extremely silly and well-done homage to the Saw movies.
If you’re coming to the show expecting to see people shoved into horrible traps and forced to torture themselves, then you may be disappointed (though we hope you’ll actually just be relieved.) Instead, the premise of the show is that Billy The Doll is trying to reform his wicked ways and rehabiltate into society, mostly through cycling and performing sick tricks on his bike. Billy is also trying to reconnect with his family, who are also celebrity dolls. (Pinnochio is a distant relative, as is Chucky.)
Come.See.Saw. is a loving homage to the Saw movies, and if you’re a fan of those, there’s plenty of meta-humour and nods to the film to keep you happy. If you’re not into those movies, don’t worry; however, there’s plenty of daft humour to keep you going.
At only forty minutes or so long, the gag runs for exactly as long as it needs to, and it’s a credit to Walker’s skill as a comedian that this monstrous puppet keeps us so enthralled. We should also mention that Walker’s make-up is incredible, as it holds fast throughout a very messy (for them) performance. Walker is incredible throughout.
We get some mild audience participation, as Billy seeks validation for their (terrible) life choices throughout the show. Billy’s main problem is that every time someone seems to get close, they end up in an elaborate death-trap. We also get a touch of power point comedy as Billy explains it’s a terrible life. Brilliant stuff. Do go see Come.See.Saw.
