Alita: Battle Angel is a movie that has been 20 years in the making, and earlier this year we saw the release of this sci-fi epic adapted from the manga Battle Angel: Alita by Yukito Kishiro. To accompany the movie, 20th Century Fox has teamed up with author Nick Aires to bring a unique look at the events of the film from the perspective of Dr Dyson Ido (played in the film by Christoph Waltz).
The book covers Ido’s story from when his daughter, who couldn’t walk, was having a new body made for her by her father, through the heartbreaking tragedy that befell Dr Ido and his wife Chiren, all the way through to the conclusion of the film where we see Alita finally discovering who she is.
For fans of the film and the source material this is a great companion piece to own, offering some extra insight into the mind of one of the most integral characters in the Alita universe. Aires brings an additional layer of deep personality to Ido through his words and how he views Alita, as he is essentially her father figure. Along with this fascinating outlook into this magical world is some really interesting artwork along with stills from the movie itself. There are also various physical extras, including a pass to the Motorball pits, which add some truly satisfying realism to this book.
If you found the movie as spellbinding and thoroughly entertaining as we did, reading through the book will evoke similar emotions. The parts that were not witnessed directly by Ido himself are explained in the fashion of him being told by other characters and then making his own judgement on the situation in his trusty journal.
This is a must own book for fans of all things Alita: Battle Angel – pair this will the novelisation of the film along with the Art and Making Of book and you have some truly great collectors items from the world of Alita.
