Radio Silence, the trio behind the recent Scream movies and horror-comedy Ready or Not, has signed on to direct and produce a monster thriller movie for Universal.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will direct the as-yet untitled project, with Chad Villella on producing duties. Also producing are William Sherak, Paul Neinstein and James Vanderbilt of Project X Entertainment, who were the team’s partners on the Scream movies. Tripp Vinson, who worked on Ready or Not, is also producing.

The script was written by Stephen Shields, with revisions by Guy Busick.

Though Universal is keeping all plot details under lock and key, we do know that the project in question was at one point titled Dracula’s Daughter. According to THR, that project was centred on kidnappers who abduct a group of young people, one of whom is revealed to be the titular character.

It seems Radio Silence’s upcoming film will follow in the footsteps of Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man and Adam McKay’s Renfield, which are movies taking on Universal’s legendary monsters in a new, modern direction.

The announcement follows recent news that Radio Silence would also be directing a remake of John Carpenter’s iconic Escape from New York, from a screenplay by Neil Cross.
