A crossover between PLANET OF THE APES and STAR TREK is a fascinating concept, one that may seem highly illogical, but of course is anything but. It’s a surprise that Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise haven’t been given a movie in which to explore an alternate timeline (again), meeting Earth’s rather different, ape-orientated future.

Announced at Comic-Con, the pairing (subtitled THE PRIMATE DIRECTIVE) will be an amalgam of Boom! Studios, who hold the Apes licence, and IDW who publish Trek comics. Scott Tipton (long standing writer and editor of IDW) is joining forces with his brother Dave (himself responsible for such titles as DOCTOR WHO: ASSIMILATION 2).

The story is one-part cunning to two-parts bonkers; described by Tipton as ‘With the Klingons secretly backing a renegade gorilla general in a coup for control of Ape City, Captain Kirk finds himself in the uncomfortable position of having to help out Dr. Zaius’ orangutans. Taylor won’t be happy with that!

Though not much is known at this stage, Rachael Scott will be on interior and covers duty. So, great idea or silly shoehorn of one beloved franchise into another?
