Update on the I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER Remake

In the landscape of remakes, reboots, reimaginings or whatever hip and happening term is being thrown around Hollywood, one such project that all seemed to go quiet on was a new take on I Know What You Did Last Summer. Now, though, there’s an update on where things lie with that redo.

The last solid information we’d had on all of this was back in 2014 when Oculus and Ouija: Origin of Evil’s pairing of Mike Flanagan and Jeff Howard were brought in to pen the script. Speaking to Bloody-Disgusting, Howard has now been discussing the project, explaining, “I don’t have any updates on it. I haven’t heard anything in quite a while. Our involvement ended at the script stage, which we delivered and were happy with, but I’m not sure what’s happening now.”

Flanagan then added, “I was never attached to direct – Jeff and I were only responsible for the script. It’s a great property and it is in terrific hands with [producer] Neal Moritz, so I really hope it gets made.”

Before the 1997 Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr-starring movie, I Know What You Did Last Summer began life as a Lois Duncan novel. Previously, it was reported that Flanagan and Howard were working on a script that was a new take on said source material.

So, it appears that the new I Know What You Did Last Summer is still spinning its wheels in development hell for now even if Flanagan and Howard are happy with their screenplay.

As ever, expect more on this as and when it develops further.

THE CONJURING 3 Brings in Writer; James Wan Not Directing

With a third main Conjuring movie recently confirmed, now comes word on who’ll be penning the screenplay for that particular film.

As per Deadline, David Leslie Johnson will be on writing duties – returning to the same job he took on for The Conjuring 2. Elsewhere, it’s believed that James Wan won’t be directing this time out, although he’ll be involved in a producing capacity through his Atomic Monster banner. Wan, of course, directed the first entry in the franchise then directed and co-wrote the sequel.

Since beginning life back with 2013’s The Conjuring, this world has gone on to become its own shared universe of horror delights. As well as The Conjuring and The Conjuring 2, we’ve also had Annabelle, with Annabelle: Creation set for an August release before The Nun arrives in July 2018. In addition to this, a film based around the Crooked Man seen in The Conjuring 2 is currently in development.

Jane Levy Joins Zombie Comedy SEA OAK

“A mix of zombie drama and family revenge comedy”? That certainly sounds right up our street.

Just such a project is happening, with Amazon developing a half-hour comedy pilot for a show called Sea Oak. And now, the series has moved to bring in Don’t Breathe and the Evil Dead’s Jane Levy to feature in the pilot. She joins the already-announced Glenn Close in Sea Oak.

The early word on this series reads:

Sea Oak revolves around Aunt Bernie (Close), a meek, unmarried woman with no children in working-class Rust Belt City who dies tragically in a home invasion. Compelled by sheer force of dissatisfaction, she comes back from the dead full of rage and determined to get the life she never had. She proceeds to inflict a range of demands on what’s left of her nuclear family, including a quasi-stripper nephew and two feckless nieces, who live in a low-end subsidized hellhole of a housing complex called Sea Oak.

Expect more on Sea Oak as it continues to develop.

CASTLE ROCK Adds Jane Levy and Sissy Spacek

One of the most eye-catching projects currently in development in Castle Rock, the Hulu series being based around the fictional town that appears in so many of Stephen King’s classic works. And now the series has moved to bring in two names who’ll certainly be familiar to horror hounds.

As per Deadline, the series has brought in Don’t Breathe and the Evil Dead remake’s Jane Levy and none other than genre icon Sissy Spacek. Spacek, of course, famously headlined Brian De Palma’s adaptation of King’s Carrie. The pair join Moonlight’s Andre Holland in Castle Rock. In the show, Levy will play a death-obsessed historian called Jackie, whilst Spacek will play Ruth Deaver, the adoptive mother of Holland’s Henry and someone who is a retired professor who potentially holds the key to Castle Rock’s eerie past.

Set in a world draped in famed King lore, Castle Rock is being developed by J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions and Warner Bros. TV. The series will “combine the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland.”

Check Out Sci-Fi Comedy ERIS on Kickstarter

A new sci-fi comedy – Eris – has hit Kickstarter and needs you to get involved in order to realise the project’s full potential.

The project bends but doesn’t quite break the fourth wall. From the press release:

Imagine a female ‘Mad Max’ waking up in the ‘Never Ending Story’. Or perhaps, even, a series of ‘Red Dwarf’ as directed by Ridley Scott. Who will emerge victorious in this interstellar battle between love and strife? Eccentric aliens resurrect the last human – Eris. But is she more than they can handle? British sci-fi comedy with comic book action, retro styling and a rebellious spirit!

Director Brad Watson describes it, “Eris is the perfect creative endeavour to grow from a crowdfunding scenario. It is designed to be loved and nurtured by a fan base that will feel proud to have had a hand in its creation toward our eventual goal of taking over the whole world with fun action, adventure, inventive but lovable characters and fart jokes.

Created by Haydn Hades, a talented stand-up comedian as well as writer, producer and director. Haydn has produced the acclaimed short The Dark Room (starring David Mitchell) and has directed many stage plays (including Harold Pinter’s The Homecoming).

Eris is brought to life by the astoundingly talented Jahannah James who, as well as being a fantastic actress is linked to her interviews with Hugh Jackman and Taron Egerton. Her comedy videos on Facebook have reached an audience of up to 80 million and she now has 360,0000 registered fans. Jahannah also cohosts a weekly radio show with Noel Clarke on Fubar Radio. The combination of Jahannah’s talent and the innovation behind Eris has already created an online buzz. The Eris mini episode, Eris and the Futile Tin of Mystery, reached 35,000 views within 24 hours of its release on social media.

Eris is directed by award winning Indie helmsman, Brad Watson, who has also composed and performed the projects epic synth score. Brad’s latest feature, Hallows Eve, premiered at FrightFest and was previewed at BFI before being shown around the world. As well as being an expert with working with low budgets Brad is also a complete sci-fi obsessive which makes him the perfect to choice to deliver Eris to the world.

Creative Effects are essential to the Eris universe and they don’t come much more qualified than John Schoonraad. John has worked on Return of the Jedi, Indiana Jones, Gladiator, Saving Private Ryan and Troy. He was also part of the Oscar-winning creature crew for The Wolfman, working with Rick Baker.

Eris needs to reach a target of £30,000 to develop a web series or TV show, so check it out and get involved by checking the project out on Kickstarter.

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR to be the Swansong of Certain Heroes

As we’re now well under way with Marvel’s Phase 3 of MCU movies, Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige has been discussing what could possibly lie ahead for Phase 4 of this shared cinematic superhero realm.

Speaking to JoBlo about whether Phase 3 – which will end with Avengers: Infinity War and its to-be-titled follow-up – will actually be the swansong for certain characters, Feige gave a simple “Yes” before going on to add, “We have another two years of hard work to even finish these movies, and they [the actors] have a lot of hard work to do, so that’s all we’re thinking about, is completing those and delivering on the promise of those. Where it goes beyond that, we’ll see.”

So, who might not make it out of Phase 3 alive? The obvious choice would seem to be Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, especially as both Winter Soldier and Falcon are waiting in the wings to take over the shield. Of course, we’ve heard the theory of Cap being killed off a couple of times already by this point in the MCU – with the Sentinel of Liberty still standing tall. It could even be that those characters who we see the last of maybe just head off into the sunset rather than getting killed off. All that we know for sure about Phase 4 right now is that the first movie of that batch of pictures will be the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel.

Feige went on to explain, “So much happens in [the next two Avengers movies], as you can imagine, and so much is affected by it that we felt what better person to hold your hand and lead you into the next incarnation of the MCU, in a grounded, realistic manner, than Peter Parker? So, coming out two months after Untitled Avengers, much of what the next Spider-Man film will be about… It was purposefully done like this. Like how the events of Captain America: Civil War impacted Peter as he was dropped off by Tony and expected to go back to continue his sophomore year, how the hell are the events of Infinity War and Untitled going to affect him as he, yes, goes back to his junior year?”

Before Phase 3 comes to an end, though, we’ve still got Thor: Ragnarok this November, Black Panther arriving February 2018, the aforementioned Avengers: Infinity War set for May 2018, Ant-Man and the Wasp booked in for July 2018, the Brie Larson-headlined Captain Marvel confirmed for March 2019, and that still-to-be-titled Infinity War follow-up to be released in May 2019.

Lady Gaga Returning to AMERICAN HORROR STORY?

Following last week’s news that Arrow’s Colton Haynes has joined the upcoming seventh season of American Horror Story, now comes a rumour regarding a potential returning face for this fan favourite genre show.

Now, this is far from official, but the @AHSLeak Twitter account has picked up on an interesting piece of information from Vogue Magazine. In a feature on Lady Gaga, the mag claims that: “She’ll return for an undisclosed role in the election-themed 2017 series set to debut in September.”

Despite many initially believing that her casting in American Horror Story: Hotel was merely a cheap marketing ploy, it turned out that the singer-turned-actress was actually pretty good. In fact, it turned out that she was pretty damn excellent – even nabbing a Golden Globe for her performance.

AHS as a series, of course, has a habit to bring back cast members for each differing season, with Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, and Billy Eichner returning names to have already been announced for Season 7. In terms of new additions, the aforementioned Haynes is joined by Billie Lourd, Cheyenne Jackson, and Leslie Grossman.

Plot-wise, this next season of American Horror Story will pull inspiration from last year’s US election.

As ever, expect more on this as we get it.
