“Wild” Idea in Place for TRUE DETECTIVE’s Fourth Season

True Detective

With True Detective having finally returned for its hotly anticipated third season, now comes word on what could lie ahead for the fan favourite series.

Speaking to EW, show creator Nic Pizzolatto revealed that he’s already got an idea for a fourth season. As Pizzolatto enthused, “I dream of making a TV show where you have recurring characters and don’t have to reinvent the wheel every time. After one of those I always feel so depleted. But I have to say, I have an idea. And it’s wild. It’s really, really wild.”

Pizzolatto continued, “Where do you even go after this [season]? I just had a lead character who’s 35, 45 and 70 all at the same time, and this mystery has to reach false resolutions and keep going into the future without cheating the audience and all these complicated structural elements. But I have an idea that’s kind of crazy. I think it needs to percolate for a while. I was looking to do another series, maybe a movie in the meantime, but yeah, I have an idea.”

What that crazy, wild idea could be, we guess we’ll have to wait and see. For Season 3 of True Detective, things are certainly off to an interesting start – with UK audiences able to find the show on Sky Atlantic.

New TMNT Reboot Could Start Production This Year

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Remember those rumblings of yet another redo for the big-screen Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles property? Well, this new take on the Heroes in a Half-Shell could actually get going before the year is up.

Speaking to Variety, producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller have confirmed that Paramount Pictures is indeed still pushing forward with a new reboot for TMNT, with the current plan to start production by the end of the year.

The last we’d heard on this was that Bad Words’ Andrew Dodge had been brought in to being work on the film’s screenplay last June.

In terms of its most recent incarnation, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles proved a box office success in 2014, before Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows proved less successful in 2016. Those movies saw a mixture of CGI and live-action utilised to bring the Turtles and their world to life, and both fans and critics alike were generally split on these two outings.

Now though, the adventures of Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo are set to be reimagined yet again.

As ever, expect more on this TMNT reboot as it continues to develop.

STAR TREK: DISCOVERY Spin-off Series Made Official

Michelle Yeoh Star Trek: Discovery

Thanks to the success of CBS’ Star trek: Discovery, there are plans afoot for plenty more small-screen Star Trek action. And now, there’s a big update on one such spin-off series.

Via ComicBook.com, it’s now been officially announced that Michelle Yeoh’s Philippa Georgiou will be getting her own show. Bo Yeon Kim and Erika Lippoldt will be writing the effort, which has yet to have its title confirmed just yet.

In Discovery, Yeoh’s Philippa was the mentor of Sonequa Martin-Green’s Michael Burnham. Unfortunately, Philippa was killed off… although audiences were shown that her mirror universe counterpart was alive and well, serving as the Emperor. Having left the mirror realm, the character eventually became a member of Section 31, defending the Federation against any and all threats.

On this news, executive producer Alex Kurtzman enthused, “Michelle has shattered ceilings, broken boundaries, and astonished us with her grace and gravitas for decades. As a human, I adore her. As an actor, I revere her. Erika and Boey are remarkable, exciting writers who bring a fresh perspective to the world of Star Trek, and we’re all thrilled to explore the next wild chapter in the life of Captain Philippa Georgiou.”

Expect more on all of this as we get it.

Dan Trachtenberg to Direct Sony’s UNCHARTED Adaptation

Uncharted

With an Uncharted movie having been spinning its wheels for several years now, the movie has finally found a new director.

Courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures has brought in Dan Trachtenberg to direct the big-screen video game adaptation. Trachtenberg is likely best known to genre fans for helming 10 Cloverfield Lane, an episode of Black Mirror, and the upcoming pilot for Amazon’s take on The Boys.

Now that they’ve signed up a director, Sony is planning to start shooting Uncharted later this year. That said, similar plans have been in place previously, only for various directors to drop out of the project. Seth Gordon was the first director on board back in 2015, with David O. Russell, Neil Burger, and then Shawn Levy all previously in the director’s chair.

Despite all of these changes, it’s believed that Tom Holland is still set to play the young Nathan Drake in the picture. Drake, of course, is the hero at the centre of the Uncharted game series.

At this stage, it’s believed that the movie will be a prequel to the video game series, pulling inspiration from the Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception sequence in which young Drake first meets his treasure-hunting partner-in-crime Victor Sullivan.

As ever, expect more on this as Uncharted continues to develop.

COMING TO AMERICA Sequel Lands a Director

Coming to America

With a Coming to America sequel now in development, the project has moved to bring in a director.

Courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter, Craig Brewer has been brought in to tackle the follow-up to the 1988 original. Brewer is likely best known for helming Blake Snake Moan and Hustle & Flow, and he takes over the director’s chair from Warm Bodies’ Jonathan Levine.

As it happens, Brewer actually has previous with Coming to America star Eddie Murphy, with Brewer having directed the Dolemite is My Name biographical comedy that’s due to land on Netflix later this year. For what’s tentatively being called simply Coming to America 2, black-ish’s Kenya Barris is on writing duties.

No plot specifics are known just yet on this Coming to America sequel, but we do know that Murphy is due to reprise his role as Prince Akeem from John Landis’ ’88 movie. That first film saw Murphy’s African prince moving to Queens, New York as he looked to find himself a wife.

Expect more on this as we get it.

SOCIAL NETWORK Sequel Being Considered

The SOCIAL NETWORK

A Social Network sequel, you say?

Speaking to AP Entertainment, The Social Network’s Aaron Sorkin has revealed that a sequel could well be on the way for the 2010 Facebook-centric movie.

First of all, the Oscar-winning Sorkin revealed that producer Scott Rudin has been regularly emailing him to start developing a Social Network follow-up. And given what’s gone on in recent years, the world of Facebook is certainly ripe for the picking.

As Sorkin explained, “I know a lot more about Facebook in 2005 than I do in 2018, but I know enough to know that there should be a sequel. A lot of very interesting, dramatic stuff has happened since the movie ends with settling the lawsuit from the Winklevoss Twins and Eduardo Saverin.”

Of course, Facebook has been involved in hacking scandals, the pivot-to-video situation, and then the whole Cambridge Analytica issue since The Social Network was released.

Whether anything more comes of all of this, we’ll have to wait and see. As ever, though, expect more on this if and when we get it.

GLOW Brings in Breeda Wool for its Third Season

Breeda Wool

With a slew of fantastic small-screen series having been served up by Netflix over the past few years, one of the most enjoyable of the bunch has been the streaming service’s new take on the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. And now, we have word on a new addition for the upcoming third season of GLOW.

Courtesy of Deadline, Mr. Mercedes and UnReal’s Breeda Wool has landed a recurring role in GLOW’s third year. Wool will be playing a career-focussed former Vegas showgirl called Denise in the show.

Plot-wise, all that we know about GLOW’s third season is that the action will be switched to Las Vegas as the Gorgeous Ladies decide to take their show to the live stage.

The Emmy-nommed GLOW is expected to return to Netflix this June.

New Line Rebooting FINAL DESTINATION

Final Destination 3

Whether a horror franchise is good, bad or indifferent, it seems that they’re all fair game when it comes to getting the reboot treatment. And now, you can add Final Destination to the list of old favourites getting a new spin.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, New Line Cinema is making plans to reboot the Final Destination series. Already, New Line has brought in Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan on writing duties; the pair likely best known for writing several entries in the Saw franchise.

The Final Destination began life back in 2000, with Final Destination 5 the most recent outing for the series in 2011. For this new Final Destination, the early word has it labelled as a “reimagining”.

In the Final Destination franchise, the basic premise of each film saw some huge disaster averted – only for death to come a-calling for those poor souls who managed to stay alive thanks to said disaster not happening.

Expect more on this as it continues to develop.

Sony’s MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE Reboot Brings in Writing Duo

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe

With a new Masters of the Universe movie having been spinning its wheels in development hell for years now, the reboot has again taken a step forward by bringing in a writing team.

As per Variety, Sony Pictures has moved to sign up Art Marcum and Matt Holloway to pen the picture. The duo have recently worked with Sony, having penned the screenplay for this June’s Men in Black International. Marcum and Holloway’s previous credits include the likes of Iron Man, Punisher: War Zone and Transformers: The Last Knight.

This Masters of the Universe redo has been in development for several years now, with John Chu the first director to sign on for the film. From there, he was replaced by McG, who himself was replaced by David Goyer. The last we’d heard, Band of Robbers’ Aaron and Adam Nee took over the director’s chair this past April. Since then, there’s been pretty much radio silence on the project.

Masters of the Universe will follow the story of Adam, Prince of Eternia, who has the ability to transform into the ever-smiling uber-hero He-Man as he battles to protect his world from the nefarious threat of Skeletor. Of course, these bitter rivals have most recently been seen shilling financial products for MoneySupermarket.com…

Sony had previously pegged Masters of the Universe for a December 18th, 2019 release, although the reboot now looks highly unlikely to make that release date.

SUPERGIRL Brings in The Hat

The Hat Supergirl

In some bad news for the Maid of Might, Supergirl has cast The Hat to go up against Melissa Benoist’s titular heroine later this year.

Via ComicBook.com, Louis Ozawa Changchien has signed on to play Rampotatek, aka the nefarious Hat. Changchien is likely best known to genre fans for his appearances in The Man in the High Castle, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Predators and Kidding.

As for The Hat as a character, he debuted as part of the no-nonsense Elite group back in 2001’s Action Comics #775. The Elite themselves are a group of superpowered sorts who seek to fight the good fight by whatever means necessary. That instantly puts them in the crosshairs of Superman, who takes umbrage with their excessive and violent ways of dealing with things.

The Hat is somebody with demonic-esque powers that allow him to breathe fire, summon demons, and even be invincible at times. As a team, The Elite’s roster has featured the likes of Manchester Black, Vera Black, two incarnations of Menagerie, Coldcast, and Bunny. The team were previously featured in 2012’s Superman vs. The Elite animated movie.

In Supergirl, The Hat will team up with Manchester Black, Menagerie, and The Morae to go against the Girl of Steel. The current word is that Hat will debut in the thirteenth episode of Supergirl’s ongoing fourth season.
