CBS Developing Clarice Starling TV Series

The Silence of the Lambs

Well, this is certainly, err, interesting.

Despite cancelling Hannibal after three seasons and just at the cusp where the show was lined up to tackle the story of Clarice Starling, CBS is now developing a series titled simply Clarice.

Via Deadline, Clarice will be a crime drama based after the story of The Silence of the Lambs. Set in 1993, this new show will explore the life of Clarice Starling as she returns to action to tackle sexual predators and serial killers a year after her tangle with Hannibal Lecter and Buffalo Bill.

In 1991’s The Silence of the Lambs movie, Jodie Foster famously won an Oscar for her turn as Clarice, and Julianne Moore likewise impressed in the role in 2001’s Hannibal. Previously, Hannibal showrunner Bryan Fuller has stated how his plan was to cast Juno‘s Ellen Page in the Clarice role should that show had continued.

Star Trek‘s Alex Kurtzman and Rachel Getting Married‘s Jenny Lumet are writing and executive producing Clarice, with a series commitment in place for a ten-episode debut season.

And as you’d expect, news of this new series has seen a #SaveHannibal hashtag start trending on social media.

HBO Developing a PARASITE TV Series

Parasite

In some potentially brilliant news, a Parasite TV series is on the way.

Via The Hollywood Reporter, HBO has picked up the rights to produce a series based on Bong Joon-ho’s Golden Globe-nommed Parasite. Bong and Vice’s Adam McKay to develop the show.

There’s no word just yet on whether any such Parasite series would operate as a follow-up to Boon’s movie – due for a UK release on February 7th – or whether this small screen offering would be an English language redo of that picture.

Where the Parasite film is concerned, the official blurb on that reads:

Greed and class discrimination threaten the newly formed symbiotic relationship between the wealthy Park family and the destitute Kim clan.

As ever, expect more on HBO’s Parasite as we get it.

Mark Hamill to Appear in WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS

Mark Hamill

Well, this is all kinds of cool. Yes, as the headline suggests, Mark Hamill is set to appear in What We Do in the Shadows.

As announced by creator Jemaine Clement during a recent TCA panel – courtesy of Variety – it was revealed that the genre icon will be a guest star in the second season of FX’s What We Do in the Shadows TV series. There’s no word just yet on what role the ever-charming Hamill will have in the show’s second year, but news of his involvement is sure to put a smile on the chops of many.

In addition to this, Clement also revealed that Booksmart’s Beanie Feldstein is unable to return for What We Do in the Shadows’ second year due to prior commitments.

During this panel, Jemaine explained how the current plan for Season 2 is to steer clear of what audiences have previously seen in the What We Do in the Shadows movie – and that supernatural beings such as ghosts and witches will become a part of the series.

The current plan is for What We Do in the Shadows’ second season to premiere at some point towards the end of 2020.

Andy Muschietti Remaking THE HOWLING for Netflix

The Howling

Another week, another remake…

As first reported by That Hashtag Show, Andy Muschietti is to tackle a remake of The Howling for Netflix. The IT director revealed the news during a recent press screening on Underwater.

This isn’t completely out of left-field, for last year’s San Diego Comic-Con saw Muschietti reveal that if he could remake one classic horror movie then it would be The Howling.

Joe Dante’s 1981 The Howling was loosely based on Gary Brandner’s 1977 novel. Reportedly, Andy Muschietti’s take on the film will pull more from that source material than Dante’s movie did.

In that 1977 read, the main character of Karyn Beatty heads to a small mountain town as she looks to recover from a nervous breakdown. It’s there that things take a turn for the sinister, as the residents of this town aren’t quite as they seem.

Expect more on this new take on The Howling as it continues to develop.

Robert Aramayo Joins LORD OF THE RINGS

Robert Aramayo

With Amazon Prime Video currently at work on its hugely anticipated Lord of the Rings TV series, the show was recently dealt a blow by Will Poulter having to drop out of the small screen offering due to a scheduling conflict. Now though, Poulter’s replacement has been found.

Via Deadline, Will Poulter’s lead role of Beldor has been given to Robert Aramayo. For you Game of Thrones fans out there, you’ll instantly recognise Aramayo as the show’s younger version of Ned Stark.

In this to-be-titled Lord of the Rings series, Robert Aramayo will be joining Maxim Baldry, Joseph Mawle, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, and Morfydd Clark. The majority of the cast’s roles are being kept hush-hush right now – although we do know that Clark will be playing a young Galadriel.

From what we know about the show at this early stage, it will be set in the Second Age and thus will be a precursor to what we’ve seen on the silver screen in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies.

Production is due to get underway on this series later this year, and filming will actually take place in the same New Zealand locations used in Jackson’s movies.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’s J.A. Bayona is on board to direct the first two episodes of this Lord of the Rings show, with Star Trek: Beyond writers JD Payne and Patrick McKay serving as showrunners.

All being well, expect to see this Lord of the Rings offering land on Amazon Prime Video at some point in 2021.
