Or at least the first teaser poster anyway…

So what the hell is FRANKENWEENIE some of you may well be asking (since the poster gives away zip)? Well, it’s Burton’s third venture into the world of stop-motion animation – after the fan favourite NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS and (the less favourably received) CORPSE BRIDE – that sees the director revisit one of his first short films made back in 1984 (pictured up top). A brilliant parody of the Mary Shelley classic, FRANKENWEENIE tells the tale of a young boy (Victor Frankenstein) who, after losing his beloved dog Sparky, discovers a way to bring him back from the dead.

For anyone who’s a fan of the original, it’s comforting to know that Disney has allowed Burton to once again render the tale in black & white, retaining the classic retro look of the original. Albeit in 3D, naturally.

The full length remake will feature the voice talents of Burton alumni Winona Ryder, Martin Landau, Catherine O’Hara, Martin Short and I AM LEGEND’s Charlie Tahan as the young Victor Frankenstein. Hang on… where’s Depp? Hope they haven’t fallen out.

And for anyone who hasn’t yet seen FRANKENWEENIE (arguably one of Burton’s best films in my opinion), why not clear the next 30 minutes from your schedule and check it out below (and yes, that is the kid from THE NEVER ENDING STORY!)
