Fox announced today that it has picked up J.J. Abrams’ new series ALCATRAZ for a full season.

The show will re-team the creator with his LOST star Jorge Garcia in a story of another island, this time the titular prison itself, and the mystery surrounding the disappearance of several prisoners and guards 30, only for them to show up again thirty years later.

Dharma did it?

This is just one of many Abrams projects in the pipeline – SUPER 8, his second movie as writer/director hits cinemas this summer; MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE GHOST PROTOCOL arrives in December; STAR TREK 2 is being prepped for a 2012 release; the oft-mooted CLOVERFIELD sequel is currently in development; as is samurai vs. robot flick ZANBATO; and a second TV series in PERSONS OF INTEREST (starring another LOST alum Michael Emerson) currently awaits pick-up. Add to that exhaustive list the recent announcement that FRINGE will be back for a fourth season and you’ve surely got the busiest filmmaker in Hollywood right now.

ALCATRAZ is expected to air later this year.
