It might the least shocking news of all time, but toy manufacturers turned movie moguls Hasbro have announced they’re actively pursuing a fourth TRANSFORMERS flick sooner than later, and they want Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg back on board.

Now it’s pretty common knowledge that Michael Bay has publicly stated that DARK OF THE MOON was his last TRANSFORMERS movie, (though he did say the same about REVENGE OF THE FALLEN), so if he does return it’s likely to be in a producing capacity alongside The Beard. At least with these guys both on the team we can be assured that the series will be safe of the rumoured reboot treatment. Because whether Shia LaBeouf returns as Sam or not (highly unlikely), judging by DOTM’s staggering box office take some of us still clearly care about the complex mythos and careful character development of Bay’s trilogy. Ahem.

Seems Hasbro aren’t just trying to fast track a 4th, they’re also hoping to adopt the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN and MATRIX strategy of shooting back-to-back to bring us a 5th too, saving the backers gazillions in budgetary terms.

While I’m quite happy with whatever they decide, there is one rumour that keeps rearing its ugly head that frankly terrifies me… The inclusion of Jason Statham in the franchise. Why, Dreamworks, WHY?! As much as I’m looking forward to the further adventures of Optimus and Co, if he’s in I’m out. Our only hope is that the rumour of him joining the every expanding cast of FAST 6 & 7 (also shooting back-to-back) proves true. He can’t possibly do both. Can he?

Who would you like to see take the reigns of the TRANSFORMERS trilogy if Bay chooses to take a back seat? Or is Shia’s non-involvement a deal-breaker? Share your thoughts in the Comments below or on Twitter @Starburst_Mag
